Twitter goes berserk as Australia concedes a 1st innings lead to Bangladesh
Twitter hailed the hosts and trolled the Aussies as they failed the trial by spin.
Bangladesh continued their good work on day 2 of the first Test as the visitors crumbled to a paltry total of 217 in the first innings post tea. Shakib Al Hasan, the wily all-rounder, picked up a five-wicket haul as the Kangaroos conceded the lead despite the rear guard from the tail. Bangladesh were bowled out for 260 on the first day with half century contributions from Tamim Iqbal and Shakib.
In reply, Australia started were rocked early as David Warner’s poor run of form continued in the subcontinent and he was followed by Usman Khawaja and the nightwatchman Nathan Lyon. Australia had finished day 1 at 18/3 and with Steve Smith and Matt Renshaw at the crease expected a fight back. All the hopes were pinned on their skipper but he too was bowled off Mehedi Hasan early on the second day. Peter Handscomb and Renshaw continued to fight as the hosts’ spinners kept coming at them.
Aussies not giving up
Just when as it looked like the Australians would restore parity, the trio of spinners struck in quick successions to leave them reeling at 144/8. Australia looked like conceding the deficit by more than 100 runs but Cummins and Agar fought it out until Tea time with a 49-run stand to get themselves back into the contest with 193/8.
Post tea though, Shakib came back into the attack and scalped Cummins and soon the Aussies were bowled out for 217 conceding a crucial 43-run lead. Shakib Al Hasan bowled excellently and picked a fifer to follow his excellence with the bat. Mehedi Hasan also supported him well and scalped 3 wickets. Taijul Islam picked a solitary wicket as Mustafizur Rahim was tight with his off cutters and never let the Australians off the hook. Twitter went berserk as the visitors crumbled to a considerable lead of 43 runs.
