Back in August, Thane-born cricketer, Prithvi Shaw got his maiden call-up to the Indian Test team for the final two matches against England at The Ageas Bowl and Kennington Oval respectively. He was drafted in owing to his stupendous performances for India ‘A’ across all the formats. India’s struggle with the willow at the top of the batting order also attributed to his inclusion.

However, he didn’t get an opportunity to show his prowess. Instead of getting disappointed, he went back to the domestic circuit and impressed for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The 18-year-old played three matches in the 50-overs event and notched 287 runs at an incredible average of 95.57. His highest score of 129 runs from 81 balls came against Railways.

Prithvi to make his debut

The performances caught the selectors’ eyes and he was drafted in for India’s upcoming two-match series against the Windies. He came in place of left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan, who had a torrid time in red-ball cricket on English soil. To multiply his joy, it has now been learned that the teenage batting sensation is all set to make his debut in the first Test in Rajkot.

He is most likely to open with Karnataka cricketer KL Rahul. The current year has turned out to be equivalent to a fairytale for Shaw. He captained India U19 to glory in the World Cup in New Zealand earlier this year. He was thereafter blessed with a lucrative contract for the Delhi Daredevils in the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL) where he played well as well.

The performances earned him a place in India ‘A’s squad for the tour of England after which he wielded his magic in the series against South Africa ‘A’. Following his selection, Twitterati heaped praises on the pugnacious potential prior to his maiden foray into international cricket.
