Twitter in awe as Virat Kohli plunders another ODI century against Australia
The bearded beast accomplished the milestone in 108 balls.
After their loss against Australia in the first ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), India were faced with a do-or-die situation going into the second encounter at the Adelaide Oval. Virat Kohli, being the skipper, had a massive task ahead of him, both as a batsman and as a captain. In the last match, he could only score three runs from eight deliveries and got out to fast bowler Jhye Richardson.
However, he didn’t let the pressure unnerve him by any stretch of the imagination and racked up his 39th ODI century. Yet another time, the Aussies, led by Aaron Finch, put up a significant score of 298 on the board. But like last time, the visitors didn’t lose wickets in clumps early on and got off to a decent start. Kohli came to bat after seamer Jason Behrendroff accounted for Shikhar Dhawan’s wicket.
Kohli weaves his magic
The Delhi-born cricketer is known for pacing his innings to perfection and the attribute is one of the reasons why he has tasted a significant amount of success, especially during run-chases. He accomplished his half-century in just 66 balls and also added 54 runs with opening batsman Rohit Sharma, who scored 133 in the previous match. Even after Sharma’s dismissal, the 30-year-old Virat didn’t lose his cool.
He kept milking the bowling and didn’t let the required rate jump at an alarming rate. The right-hander then put on 59 runs with Ambati Rayudu, who got out after scoring 24 runs. MS Dhoni, the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman joined Kohli in the middle and he turned out to be an appropriate foil for Virat. In the 38th over from fast bowler Marcus Stoinis, Virat entered into the nervous 90s.
Thereafter, Kohli dealt in singles for a brief while and didn’t play any rash strokes, which could’ve led to his demise. In the first ball of the 43rd over from seamer Peter Siddle, Kohli turned the ball on the leg side and raised his bat in jubilation. He had a few lucky breaks in the 90s, but he rode his luck to the milestone. He also became the first Indian captain to rack up an ODI century on Australian soil.
