Twitter in awe of Virat Kohli for his nonchalant 36th ODI century
He was so fluent in his approach that no bowler has troubled him so far.
How often does he scores century in a steep chase? Virat Kohli batted with utter ease on a belter of a track in Guwahati and has so far made a mockery of the 323-run chase. He, along with Rohit Sharma, has just toyed with the opposition bowlers who have tried everything in their kitty. At the halfway mark, the game was hanging in the balance as the visitors had surprised everyone with their approach and rode on a stunning century from Shimron Hetmyer to post 322 runs on the board.
While the onus was on India’s opening pair, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit, the former was castled by the debutant Oshane Thomas with a pacy delivery. This brought the captain Virat Kohli to the crease only to add to the agony of the Windies. He was so confident of himself from the word go that the batsman walked towards the fast bowler to play the strokes. Kohli took some time to get hold of Thomas’ pace and pummelled him into the submission to let him know the hard yards in the international cricket.
Authoritative pull strokes
Virat Kohli was in no mood to give away the chance of scoring big today and the stage was set for him. He raced through to his half-century, which has become a norm nowadays, off just 36 deliveries. Looking at the mayhem, Jason Holder brought himself into the attack to stem the run flow but even he was hapless. Kohli’s placement was so accurate that the quick outfield at the Barasapara Cricket Stadium made the shots look even superb.
There was also an attempt of hurrying him on the backfoot with the short deliveries. But the world knows now that the World’s best batsman is very good at pull strokes and he owns runs off that shot. The 29-year-old has set so high standards of his batting that at one one point time while batting on 84, he wasn’t happy with the way he was batting having missed out on a couple of shots.
Though he slowed down a bit later in the innings, there was no stopping Virat Kohli and fittingly brought up his 36th ton with his favourite shot, cover drive in the 27th over. Team India and the fans would want him to bat more as the target is still a fair way away.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Kohli’s yet another century:
