Youngster Prithvi Shaw is a relentless cricket machine. The 18-year-old batsman who made his Test debut in Rajkot a memorable one by slamming a ton was back with his regular job in Hyderabad by giving India a strong start against the Windies. Shaw scored yet another fifty at a scoring rate of more-than-a-ball after the hosts came out to bat in reply to the Caribbeans’ first innings score of 311.
He came out to bat with his senior opening partner KL Rahul and although the latter managed just four of 25 deliveries, the opening partnership saw 61 runs being scored in just 8.4 overs, giving an idea about Shaw’s dominance in the game. Windies’ opening pacer Shannon Gabriel went for 20 runs in three overs of which one was a maiden.
Yet another 50 and at a brisk pace
Prithvi Shaw’s half-century off 39 balls spoke volumes about the young batsman’s mental build-up for the highest stage. In the first Test, the Mumbai lad belted 134 runs off 154 balls after Rahul fell for nought and put up a double century partnership with Pujara for the second wicket. The innings registered Shaw’s name in the record books for a number of reasons and he ended up as the Man of the Match after India won the game by an innings and 272 runs.
Shaw punched left-arm orthodox Jomel Warrican for a single to bring up his maiden fifty in Test cricket in just the 14th over of the innings, reviving the memory of Virender Sehwag who used to give the team brisk starts to make the job for the middle-order easier. Experts said the man’s technique of staying to the leg side of the ball could be tested in tougher conditions but nobody disagreed that he has a remarkable temperament.
The Twitterati was ecstatic with Shaw’s innings in Hyderabad and they also lauded him for playing like Virender Sehwag.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
@PrithviShaw His inning reminds me of @virendersehwag. Similar kind of approach and application while playing. Test cricket at its best.

Looks like @PrithviShaw is a mix of Sachin in terms of class and Sehwag in terms of explosiveness and being ruthless. Treat to watch !!#INDvsWI #cricbuzzlive #haveyoursay

There was a time, @virendersehwag used to play ODl in tests.
Now @PrithviShaw playing T20 in Tests.
Test cricket has evolved.#INDvWI— Digesh Chheda (@digesh_123) October 13, 2018
Pakistani young players should start watching #prithvishaw . Sad to see zero competition from their senior team. And their horrified players.#INDvWI #INDvsWI

The fastest Test hundred for India belongs to Kapil Dev & Mohammad Azharuddin (74 balls).
Hope the 'wonderkid' Prithvi Shaw breaks it today 🔥#INDvWI #prithvishaw— Hit wicket (@sukhiaatma69) October 13, 2018

I think @PrithviShaw will only be considered as first choice opener for india in Australia. @cricbuzz #haveyoursay #cricbuzzcommbox #INDvWI #INDvsWI

What a super batting from @PrithviShaw lovely to watch #INDvWI

KL Rahul must play his shots, like Prithvi Shaw is. He isn't someone who will play out the day defending everything. He must go back to dressing room and look upon his inning, the way he played, at the Kia Oval in London. Hope that he isn't dropped for the Australia tour. #INDvWI
