Twitter is ecstatic after Rishabh Pant gets a call-up for Windies ODI series
Pant would now be keen to grab the opportunities with both hands and make a case for himself for the mega event next year.
Rishabh Pant has been in prime form of late in international cricket. He played three matches in the five-match Test series against England and captured the imaginations of the supporters. He opened his account in Test cricket with a six of his second delivery of leg-break bowler Adil Rashid. However, he came into his own in the final Test at Kennington Oval in London.
He notched his maiden century in the format and also built an incredible stand along with KL Rahul, which almost took India over the line in the match. Thereafter, he scored a magnificent 92 against the Windies at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. The wicketkeeper-batsman has now been rewarded with a place in the ODI squad for the Windies series.
Pant makes it into the ODI squad
Recently, the selectors mentioned that MS Dhoni is the first-choice keeper for the World Cup and having already tried Dinesh Karthik out, they now want to give Pant an opportunity. Pant has already played quite a few T20Is, but has flattered to deceive. He made his international debut against England back in January 2017 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
He would now be keen to grab the opportunities with both hands and make a case for himself for the mega event next year. A good performance in the series will also mean that he may also be selected for the ODI series against Australia. Dinesh Karthik, who has been with the Indian team ever since the limited-overs series against England, has been left out.
Pant was brilliant in the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing Delhi Daredevils. He then played quite a few match-winning knocks for India ‘A’ in England in both the limited-overs and the first-class formats. In the meantime, Twitter appreciated the selectors for selecting Pant in the squad.
