Twitter lauds Ajinkya Rahane for a masterful century against Delhi Capitals
Rahane accomplished the milestone in 58 deliveries.
Ajinkya Rahane hasn’t had the best of times of late by any stretch of the imagination. He played his last limited-overs cricket for India back in February 2018 and then went out of contention for a spot in coloured-clothing cricket. Subsequently, he didn’t find a place in the 15-man squad for the World Cup, scheduled to start on Thursday, May 30 in England and Wales.
After the snub, he is currently plying his trade for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Last year, he was the skipper of the team and he took his team to the playoffs, only to lose against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Eliminator. Moreover, he didn’t have the greatest of seasons with the bat in hand by any means.
This season has been worse for the experienced campaigner. The Royals lost quite a few matches and languished at the bottom of the points table. His poor run of form didn’t help his confidence either. To add to his disappointment, he was also removed from the captaincy. The Royals rather elected Steve Smith as the skipper. Initially, Rahane replaced Smith as the captain.
Rahane slams his way to a century
However, today, Rahane answered his critics with a masterful century against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium In Jaipur. After DC put the hosts to bat first, Rahane started with a positive intent. He got a life when Ishant Sharma dropped a simple catch at short fine leg and he capitalized on it. The 30-year-old Rahane got to his half-century in a mere 32 balls.
Most importantly, he built a useful partnership of 130 runs off 72 deliveries with Smith. The Maharashtra-born cricketer got to his ton in 58 balls and eventually remained not out on 105 runs from 63 balls with the help for 11 boundaries and three sixes. In the meantime, Twitter was happy with Rahane’s masterclass. The supporters and fans heaped praises on Ajinkya.
