Pakistan sacked Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain across all formats last year after the team lost the home T20I series against Sri Lanka. Moreover, he was also dropped from the team owing to his poor form and many reckoned if he will ever come back to the side. However, Sarfaraz has returned to the Test side, at least, and thanks to a large contingent, travelled to England for the three-match series.
Unfortunately, it didn’t mark his comeback to Test cricket as Mohammad Rizwan is the preferred wicket-keeper now. Sarfaraz Ahmed is warming the bench in the ongoing first Test at the Old Trafford even as the visitors are doing well putting pressure on England. The reason, the former Pakistan skipper is trending on social media without playing is that he was seen carrying shoes for the batsmen on the second day of the Test.
The incident took place in the 71st over of Pakistan’s innings when Sarfaraz Ahmed, being a reserve player, carried shoes for his teammates in the middle. Soon after that, the fans felt bad for him and was trending on social media. However, many also praised him and compared to the legends like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Ricky Ponting who were seen carrying drinks before for their teammates when they weren’t playing.
Sarfaraz Ahmed waiting for opportunity
Meanwhile, having made a comeback to the squad, Sarfaraz Ahmed will now be waiting for an opportunity to seal his place in the side. His replacement, Mohammad Rizwan, has been decent behind the wickets but is yet to set the stage on fire with the bat. With three T20Is also to be played in England, the 33-year-old will be hoping to get a chance on the tour at some point.
Sarfaraz Ahmed has so far played 49 Tests, 116 ODIs and 58 T20Is in his international career and has scored more than 5000 runs. Meanwhile, the fans took to Twitter to laud the former Pakistan captain as he carried drinks and shoes for his mates during the Test match.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Once again, deliberate anti-#Misbah campaign launched during #ENGvPAK test match.
First it was started when #FawadAlam was not selected
Now journalist & some social media users from #Karachi started ranting on Misbah that why #SarfrazAhmed carried drinks.

If a player like Ricky Ponting with 3 WORLD CUP trophies can carry drinks than why not Sarfraz Ahmed with a mere CT win can't carry drinks.

Some people unhappy that Sarfaraz Ahmed was carrying the drinks today.
No player is too big or too important to carry the drinks.
