Twitter lauds MS Dhoni's gesture to let Khaleel Ahmed hold the Asia Cup trophy
Khaleel himself revealed it and the youngster became emotional while explaining the incident.
Team India sensationally won the Asia Cup recently be defeating Bangladesh in the thrilling final. The win was special this time around as their regular skipper Virat Kohli didn’t play the tournament and all 15 players contributed to the team’s cause at some stage of the competition. Though more than anything, MS Dhoni’s gesture to ask Rohit Sharma hand over to the youngest member of the team Khaleel Ahmed is the talk of the town and even Twitter is showering its praise over the veteran for the same.
The Men in Blue tried a few different tactics in the Asia Cup as the left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed was handed over a debut in the game against Hong Kong and all the players in the squad were given an oppotunity against Afghanistan. They remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and were the first team to qualify for the final.
However, Bangladesh stretched them to the hilt in the title clash and they scampered through to the victory off the last ball of the innings with only three wickets in hand. The close victory inspired the team more as they celebrated the victory on the podium with the Champions board in front of them.
Dhoni’s continues the norm
MS Dhoni, during his captaincy, always preferred handing over the trophy to the youngsters and used to stand in the corner to let others hog the limelight. The legacy is being continued with Virat Kohli also doing the same now while the veteran cricketer also asked Rohit Sharma to let Khaleel put his hands on the trophy. The youngster was thrilled to be given the honour and was overawed.
“Dhoni bhai asked Rohit Sharma to let me hold the trophy on the dais. He gave me the trophy because I was the youngest member in the team and it was my debut series. It was a memorable experience for me. When Dhoni bhai and Rohit asked me to hold the winning trophy, I had no words,” he had said explaining the incident earlier.
However, as soon as the news was spread, Twitterati showered its love on Dhoni for always leaving his mark in every aspect of the game on and off the field.
