Australian pacer Andrew Tye isn’t your regular fast bowler whose aggressive with his approach and charges at the batsmen. He has all the right attributes to be a successful pacer, has speed, the variations, is smart and mixes things up really well. That is the one reason he has had so much success in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In 2018, he was signed by the Kings XI Punjab and Tye produced his best effort for the team today.
It took the Australian a while to get used to the conditions in India, the wickets are slower and the outfield is quick which means the faster you bowl the easier it is for the batters to put the ball away. However, once Tye got a grip of the situation he has pulled things back and picked regular wickets for his team. Today, the Kings are playing the return fixture against the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur and is an important match for both the teams.
Rajasthan skipper won the toss and elected to bat first, KXIP wanted to restrict them as cheaply as possible. Tye was the first to draw the blood and he got rid of Ajinkya Rahane in the 4th over of the match. While celebrating the wicket he kissed an armband on his hands and that was the case every time he got a wicket on the night. The pacer ended the innings with a 4-wicket haul and by then had also bagged the Purple cap for being the highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
He was presented the cap in the innings break and also asked for why he was wearing the black armband. Tye said: “My Grandma passed away today, so I’d like to dedicate this performance to her and all my family. This has been an emotional match for me,” and he was visibly in tears expressing his emotions.
Twitterati was touched with his dedication and here are some of the reactions:
