The Indian team management has been encountered with a massive headache in the last few months, surrounding the choice of opening batsmen for Tests in overseas conditions. The selectors ran out of patience with Shikhar Dhawan and dropped him after the England series. Currently, Murali Vijay and KL Rahul are plying their trade in the four-match Test series in Australia.

The fact that teenager Prithvi Shaw twisted his ankle in the warm-up match in Sydney added to the selectors’ problem. To add insult to injury, both Rahul and Vijay have flattered to deceive thus far. The former has been with the national team ever since the series against the Three Lions. On the contrary, Tamil Nadu-born Vijay was dropped midway from the same tour.

Rahul and Vijay fail again

Nevertheless, he impressed in his maiden stint for Essex in the English county and was drafted in for the Australia tour. In the first Test, he got out a couple of time, flirting with away-going deliveries outside the off-stump. Rahul, on the contrary, promised in the second innings after failing in the first instance. To his disappointment, he couldn’t carry on and convert the start.

The second Test at Perth Stadium is currently underway and both haven’t been able to live up to expectations. In the third over of India’s innings, Vijay succumbed to a vicious in-swinger from Mitchell Starc. The delivery had everything to get the better of any batsman in the world. Vijay had absolutely no answer to the peach and he perished for a duck in 12 deliveries.

A couple of overs later, Rahul fell prey to a beauty from Josh Hazlewood. The youngster played all around a ball, that didn’t swing much, but was enough to breach the batter’s defense. Rahul could only score only a couple of runs from 17 balls. In the meantime, Twitter is highly dissatisfied with the duo and subsequently, the supporters lashed out at them for the failure.
