Twitter questions Ravindra Jadeja's position in the CSK team
Ravindra Jadeja has been one of India's safest fielders but yesterday wasn't his night.
Ground-fielding has been a hallmark of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ever since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. They have boasted some of the best fielders who save the team enough runs that it is equivalent to scoring that many more. From the Indian contingent, they have had the likes of Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja who have churned out some screamers with the help of their athleticism.
However, in their last game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), that wasn’t the case as their fielders were not quite up to the mark, Jadeja being one of them. Sunil Narine is no mug with the bat, but he presents chances owing to his fearless style of batting. He gave a couple of opportunities for Jadeja to grasp, but he made a meal out of them and Narine who was then batting on an individual score of 6 was spared with a couple of lifelines in the same over by KM Asif.
The rare dropped chances
On both occasions, the Windies cricketer tried to go downtown but didn’t get enough elevation to hit the ball over the fielder’s head. Following the grassed catches, Sam Billings, Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina came up to Jadeja and gave a pat on his back. Asif, who bowled the second over, would have felt as if he was the unluckiest man on earth, and rightly so.
Narine made the visitors pay and scored 32 runs off 20 balls, which was carved with four boundaries and a couple of sixes. The start set the tone for the Knight Riders and they eventually romped home courtesy of a couple of magnificent knocks by Shubman Gill and Dinesh Karthik. Lungi Ngidi dismissed Chriss Lynn in the first over and Narine’s wicket in the next over would’ve put immense pressure on KKR.
Meanwhile, Twitterati wasn’t ready to let go the Indian all-rounder and they pelted him with criticisms. Moreover, they also questioned Jadeja’s position in the CSK team.
