India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane reached his eighth century in Tests courtesy of a ton against New Zealand at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. This is also Rahane’s second Test match century in this season of cricket. However, as far as Rahane is concerned, this would be a special century as it is one of the few centuries he has under the belt.

Social media handle twitter exploded with tweets following Rahane’s glance to fine leg, something that brought up his ton. As mentioned earlier, this would be a satisfying innings as far as Rahane would be concerned simply because he looked completely at ease when he went about his innings. While one of Rahane’s strong points is indeed being calm and collected, this particular innings was filled with classy shots from the blade of the 27-year old Indian vice-captain.

He also went on to stitch an impressive 250-run partnership with skipper Virat Kohli who seemed to be more than pleased with Rahane’s ton in spite of the fact that Kohli had brought up his century a few overs and an evening prior to that of his deputy.

Needless to say that a very interesting season beckons for India and Rahane as the Indians play their next few Test matches at home, something that would more than help them to hold onto their world number one ranking.

The Indians climbed to the summit of the world rankings courtesy of their wins in the first and second Tests against the visiting New Zealanders. However, should the Kiwis claim a win in the final Test, which seems quite unlikely, Pakistan would be in with a chance to be given the opportunity to clinch the Test mace once again.
