Ajinkya Rahane smashed his seventh Test match ton after scoring an impressive 108 against the West Indies in what seemed to be somewhat of a diabolical wicket in Sabina Park, Kingston. Having come out to bat late on day 2, Rahane batted through the third day. He batted with patience with the tail and did the bulk of the scoring he also got to his 7th Test ton during the course. With Rahane unbeaten on 108, skipper Virat Kohli decided to call in the declaration in a bid to have a crack at the West Indies opening pair of Rajendra Chandrika and Kraigg Brathwaite in the last part of the evening.
In spite of the slow rate of scoring, the Indians still hold the upper hand as they have now surged into a massive 304-run lead. One of the unnoticed stars of the day was most definitely 24-year old West Indian all-rounder Roston Chase. The latter claimed his best ever bowling figures in Test match cricket with a five-wicket haul in what is only his second Test.
Twitter erupted with a plethora of Tweets congratulating Ajinkya Rahane on a wonderfully compiled ton. Leading the congratulations was the president of the BCCI and Lieutenant in the Indian Civil army Anurag Thakur.
The BCCI also went on to release a video of Rahane speaking about his amazing performances in the press conference soon after the conclusion of the match. Rahane’s massive fan following also began congratulating him on the wonderfully compiled century and hoping that there is certainly much more to come.
