When Azhar Ali completed his second double-century of the calendar year, little did he realize the amazing feat that he had accomplished. While Pakistan cricket has seen over 400 Test matches and over 50 years of cricket, Azhar Ali has become the first player to complete two double centuries in the same calendar year.
However, there is a characteristic and somewhat of a persona about the way Azhar constructed his innings. This is his second double century overseas as well after that epic double ton against a tremendously impressive bowling attack of England in England. Moreover, the 31-year old also managed to remain unbeaten on the impressive score as Pakistan went on to declare their innings early on the third day’s play at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Azhar’s batting was a hallmark for all aspiring cricketers as some of the strokes he played were something impressive. Whether it was a cover-drive, a hook, or perhaps even a pull, the fact that he had significantly mastered all these shots and put them to effect against the likes of world class pacers in the form of Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Starc was simply unbelievable.
Twitter exploded with a plethora of tweets from across different spectrums was also something as impressive as ever, meaning that tweets from across the globe came to the fore. There was a tweet from former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif as he went on to congratulate the 31-year old on an impressive innings.
Sohail Khan was also the talk of the town with a blitzkrieg of an innings that saw him amass 65 quick runs as the Pakistanis amassed 443 runs in quick succession.
Azhar Ali's batting average in Tests in last three years is 55.79 which is more than Kohli, Warner, Rahane, De Villiers and Amla. #AusvPak
