Twitter Reaction: Bowlers hand West Indies the equalizer as Pakistan suffer embarrassing collapse
West Indies won the 2nd Test by 106 runs to level the 3-match series 1-1 with one more to play.
After being thoroughly outplayed in the first Test of the three-match Test series, nobody had given the West Indies team a sniff in the series against the Pakistan side. However, the hosts slammed all their critics with a superlative bowling display to successfully defend a total as low as 187 to win the second Test at Barbados. The win for the hosts has now kept the series alive with one more Test to be played.
Coming into the final day of the match, the hosts were reeling on 264/9 with a slender lead of 183 runs to their credit. Pakistan made short work of West Indies lineup by scalping the final wicket after having conceded only 4 runs on the final day. The innings wrapped up on 268 and the Pakistan team had 188 as their target to seal the series. The target did not look daunting at all with Pakistan boasting of a very experienced batting lineup.
However, what followed next was absolute carnage from the West Indies bowlers. Azhar Ali and Ahmed Shehzad started off decently by seeing the first few overs through. Shannon Gabriel drew first blood for the hosts by sending back Azhar Ali on 10. Soon, Alzarri Joseph joined the party by dismissing Babar Azam for a duck. The duck completed the pair for Azam in the Test.
Veteran batsman Younis Khan could not last long either and Jason Holder joined the party. Misbah Ul Haq and Asad Shafiq fell on quick succession on ducks to see the visitors struggling big time. The wickets of Ahmed Shehzad (14) and Shadab Khan (1) only piled up the agony for the Pakistani team. At 36/7, the team was looking straight at embarrassment.
Had there not been a 42 run stand between Sarfraz Ahmed and Mohammad Amir for the 8th wicket, things would have been worse for them. It was only a matter of time that the innings wrapped up on 81. Shannon Gabriel was the pick of the bowlers with 5/11 to his name in 11 overs. Only 3 bowlers used and they were enough to embarrass the visitors.
Here is how the Twitter world reacted to the series of ducks in the lineup, West Indies bowling and the sensational 106 run equalizer win for the hosts:
