Daniel Hughes played a magical knock that saw him amass 84 runs to ensure that the Sydney Sixers claimed an impressive win at the Gabba over the Brisbane Heat. This win is perhaps one of the hallmarks of the character exhibited by Hughes as the match well and truly went down to the wire.

But right at the end, Sean Abbott who top-edged Ben Cutting up and over Jimmy Pierson behind the wickets to ensure that they claimed a humdinger of a win. Even Brendon McCullum, the skipper of the Heat went on to concede that they had dominated the game for the best part.

It was the impressive Jimmy Pierson and Brendon McCullum who got the hosts off to a flier on the day as they stitched an impressive 73-run partnership from just the 42 deliveries before Henry Thornton struck with the ball.

In spite of a mini collapse, it was the solitude of the amazing Joe Burns who managed a brilliant half-century as he ensured that the heat was propelled to a score above the par one to 186.

The Heat once again saw their bowlers grab wickets at regular intervals with both Jason Roy and Nic Maddinson being dismissed in quick succession of each other. In fact, it was the distinctive solitude of McCullum to keep Ben Cutting on to remove Maddinson from the middle. The 24-year old southpaw was showing signs of breaking free before he was inadvertently and rather unluckily dismissed.

However, one thing that remained constant right through the innings was the presence of Daniel Hughes who smashed the ball to various parts of the Gabba and ensured that the Sixers came close to securing a win. In spite of being cleaned up by Ben Cutting in the final over, it was a six from Sean Abbott that concluded the encounter in a rather abrupt fashion.
