Pakistan met Bangladesh at Edgbaston for the Warm Up match for the ICC Champions Trophy. It turned out to be a high-scoring encounter and gave us an idea of how the matches in the upcoming tournament are going to transpire. The ongoing ODI series between England and South Africa is also producing heaps of runs and the two Asian countries also enjoyed batting under the helpful conditions.
Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Soumya Sarkar departed in the 7th over as they were rocked back early in the innings. But Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes combined well for the 2nd wicket and added 142 runs. Kayes lost his wicket in the 27th over but not before scoring 61 runs. Mushfiqur Rahim supported Tamim well as the latter went on to notch up a century.
He went back after scoring 102 off 93 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes in the 34th over. The lower middle-order chipped in during the slog overs and some cameos propelled them to a massive score of 341/9 at the end of 50 overs. Junaid Khan picked up 73/4 whereas Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan bagged 2 wickets apiece.
In reply, Pakistan lost 2 quick wickets in the form of Azhar Ali and Babar Azam inside 5 overs. Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Hafeez added 59 runs for the 3rd wicket before the former got out in the 14th over. Shoaib Malik joined Hafeez in the middle and the duo added 79 runs. Hafeez was dismissed in the 26th over and was followed by the skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed soon.
Malik made 72 off 66 and Imad Wasim scored 45 but as they departed, Pakistan were tottering at 249/8 after 42.4 overs. The victory looked far from them but Fahim Ashraf and Hasan Ali did a wonderful job to see the side home. 50 runs were needed from the last 4 overs as Ashraf went berserk to shock the Bangladeshi bowlers.
Requiring 13 off the last over, he hit a six off the first ball off Mashrafe Mortaza and collected 3 off the next. Hasan Ali struck a four off the 3rd ball to seal the game for his side. Ashraf stayed unbeaten at 64 off 30 balls with 4 fours and as many sixes whereas Ali scored 27 off 15 as Pakistan won the match by 2 wickets with 3 balls to spare.
