Gautam Gambhir has made his entry once again into the Indian squad at the expense of the injured KL Rahul. The 34-year old southpaw, who influenced the selectors with some impressive batting in the Duleep Trophy took to twitter to thank the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for handing him a second lease of life when it came to Test cricket.

It seems as though the hamstring injury to Rahul may well be a blessing in disguise as the Indians will be in a position to inject some experience into their batting unit. While Gambhir took to twitter to speak about his happiness over the selection, many others congratulated the southpaw on his return to the side.

Gambhir led the charge for his side India Blue in the Duleep Trophy as they clinched a memorable and historic win in India’s premier first-class tournament. However, having made his mark in the Duleep Trophy with the pink ball, Gambhir will be expected to do well with the bat against the red ball in the upcoming Test against New Zealand.

In spite of the presence of Shikhar Dhawan in the side, it seems clear that the management favors Gambhir ahead of the 31-year old in the team to partner Murali Vijay in the opening slot. The last Test match Gambhir played in was against England at The Oval, a match that once again led to the 34-year old losing his place in the national side.

However, in spite of his axing from the side, Gambhir has been going strong in his domestic endeavors, especially having clinched a few title wins in the Indian Premier League as the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Many players and well-wishers of Gambhir took to twitter to state their congratulations on re-earning his place in the Indian Test side.
