Rising Pune Supergiant were entering this contest after suffering a brutal loss at the hands of Kings XI Punjab in Indore. Confidence was not exactly where they wanted it to be and it was dented a bit more as their best batter and skipper had to sit the game out. Ajinkya Rahane was named as the stand-in captain which riled a fair bit of MS Dhoni’s fans out there.

Steven Smith missed out on this encounter with the Delhi Daredevils as RPS made quite a few changes to their squad. They brought in Rahul Tripathi or his debut in place of Manoj Tiwary and Faf du Plessis was forced into the team due to Smith’s upset stomach. Adam Zampa returned to the squad as well and on the other hand, Delhi kept it straight as they dropped Carlos Brathwaite and roped in Corey Anderson.

The game started off well for the RPS as they picked up an early wicket in Aditya Tare but things went south for them pretty quickly as Sanju Samson got going for the team from Delhi. He played some glorious cover drives to get the momentum going for his team.

Rishabh Pant soon joined in as the young pair webbed a 53 run partnership. The 20-year-old Pant scored a 22 ball 31 before he ran himself out. This did not affect Sanju as he looked in sublime touch today. Sanju Samson smashed a cracking century facing just 63 deliveries. Delhi were set for a score of 180 odd but it was the exploits of Chris Morris who took the game away from RPS.

Morris scored 22 runs of the last over and 16 of the penultimate of the innings. This took Delhi past 200 as they posted a humongous total of 206 for RPS to chase. The star-studded batting lineup of Pune did not rise to the occasion. The opening pair was supposed to lay the foundation but they could not and the rest of the batting lineup including Faf du Plessis, MS Dhoni, and Ben Stokes flunked.

No batter could even get into the thirties as Mayank Agarwal top scored with 20 runs. The home crowd was utterly disappointed as Zaheer Khan tore the batting lineup of RPS apart; he finished with 3 for 20 as other bowlers contributed as well. Pune were winning the game on paper with ease but games are won on the ground and Delhi were miles ahead compared to Pune.

Twitter trolled Pune badly and hailed Delhi for their comeback. There were some passionate tweets from RPS fans while some congratulated Delhi for their 97 run victory. Let’s have a look at some of the best tweets of the game.
