The stage was set at the Rose Bowl, Southampton for the second ODI of the three-match ODI series between England and South Africa. The eyes were on the visitors since a defeat in the game would have meant a series defeat for them. On the other hand, the hosts were confident after having won the first game comprehensively. The bigger picture, the Champions Trophy, was also on the back of the minds of the two teams.

As the things turned out to be in the match, it was a run fest on the cards yet again as more than 650 runs were scored in the match. It call came down to the final over where Mark Wood successfully defended 7 runs to win the match for England. With the win, England managed to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Coming into the final over, Proteas were the firm favorites to win it.

Chris Morris and David Miller had got them back in contention with some serious power hitting in the game. An unbeaten 62 run stand in 39 deliveries was not enough for them as South Africa fell short by 2 runs in their run chase of 330. Miller remained unbeaten on 71 off 51 balls and Morris had an unbeaten 36 off 22 balls. Earlier in the game, the stage was set up for the Proteas by Quinton de Kock (98) and AB de Villiers (52).

Earlier in the game, it was a superlative ton from Ben Stokes, combined with Jos Buttler’s late cameo helped England post 330/6 in their 50 overs. The social media certainly went berserk after the game. At one stage, England looked in command of the game. The Morris-Miller partnership saw South Africa nose ahead. And eventually, it was brilliant death overs bowling by Mark Wood that set things in favor of the hosts.

From hailing the century of Ben Stokes to lauding Wood’s fine last over; from Morris-Miller show to criticizing South Africa for choking – the tweets described them all.

Here is how the Twitterverse reacted to the 2nd ODI between England and South Africa:
