The rain threat looms large over the over the much-awaited India-Pakistan clash at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Rains have been persistent since the morning upsetting the mood of the eager fans at the venue. The overhead conditions in the afternoon were dark and cloudy with flashes of lightning. The ground staff have had a busy day as the strong winds kept blowing away the covers. They were actually sitting on the covers where one sheet meets the other, to keep them in place.

The rain must have dampened the pre match build-up. However, the fans have already thronged at the stadium. The craziness for the Indo-Pak game has always been high. People have been waiting without raincoats and umbrellas around the stadium. Reportedly some have shelled out as much as Rs. 20,000 to enjoy the fiercest rivalry in cricket.

The big game will begin with famous Pakistan singer Shafqat Amanat Ali and Bollywood mega star Amitabh Bachchan singing the respective national anthems of both the Pakistan and India.

India began their Super 10 stage campaign on sour note after losing hands down to New Zealand at Nagpur. Pakistan, on the other hand, began extremely well with a thumping win over Bangladesh. As far as the numbers are concerned India has never lost to Pakistan in a world Cup game, be it 50 overs or 20 overs game.

The Pakistan team arrived amidst loud controversy over the security issues at the originally scheduled venue – Dharamsala. Later, the match was shifted to Eden Gardens following which the Pakistan arrived to India.
