Twitter Reactions: A freakish Jofra Archer plummets Australia down with maiden fifer
David Warner, at last, was back amongst the runs.
It wasn’t the best of days for Australia on the field after they were put in to bat first at Leeds. They sure struggled in the absence of Steve Smith and the way they collapsed showed it all. For England, Jofra Archer was the man with a spectacular six-wicket haul in just his second Test match. He was on fire towards the end of the day and his disciplined bowling helped him get the rewards.
From 136/2 at one stage, Australia was bowled out for 179 which was highly disappointing. Though, there were one or two positives that they’d still seek from this innings. David Warner, who struggled to find the middle of the bat in the first two Tests, was back in form. As soon as he got a few runs under his belt, he seemed a different player and displayed a lot of confidence. He was striking the ball better than he did earlier and it was a great sight to watch.
Marnus Labuschagne at number four comes to the rescue
Although Australia lost both Marcus Harris and Usman Khawaja early for just 8 runs each, David Warner along with Marnus Labuschagne built up a good partnership. It is the number four batsman for Australia who came to the rescue yet again. The right-hander was slow to get off the blocks but just continued from where he left off in the second Test once he got his eye in. These two players played some great cricket and put the Kangaroos in command.
However, things really opened up when Jofra Archer dismissed the former vice-captain for 61 runs. The likes of Travis Head, Matthew Wade and Pat Cummins were gone for a duck. Amongst the rest, Tim Paine was the leading run-scorer with 11 runs. Marnus Labuschagne fought hard till the end and threw the towel in after scoring 74 runs. Jofra Archer finished with a six-wicket haul while Stuart Broad picked up a couple of wickets.
Twitterati was all praise for the freakish Jofra Archer who is living a dream. The fans were relieved to see David Warner back amongst the runs. Also, they were all praise for Marnus Labuschagne. However, they didn’t enjoy the 8 single-digit scores and three ducks in the Australian innings.
