The final day at the Eden Gardens was full of action with India settling for a draw after some splendour day at the field. A wonderful day of Test cricket witnessed a Virat Kohli special, there was some spice in the game towards the end with the players exchanging words, the Indian pacers bowled some fired up spells but it was still a draw.
While India lost quick wickets in the first session after KL Rahul was dismissed, it seemed like the match was heading towards a draw. However, after lunch, Virat Kohli changed gears. He went on to register his 50th international century as India declared at 352/8. Mohammed Shami also swung his bat and got a few hits.
With a target of 231 for Sri Lanka, India thought of making a game out of it. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami had both the openers back to the pavilion with just 2 runs on the board for the visitors.
Lahiru Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews were dismissed early in the third session as India revived hopes of a possible victory. The entertainment started with a bit of banter shared between Niroshan Dickwella and Mohammed Shami. With both the players inspired to give their best for their respective countries, it added to the excitement.
Soon, Shami got the better of Dinesh Chandimal as Sri Lanka were reduced to 69/5. Dickwella who had been surviving dangerously was trapped in front of the stumps which had them reeling at 69/6. They were further reduced to 75/7 before bad light played spoilsport yet again to end the game in a tame fashion.
Twitter had a splendid time throughout the final day’s play. Virat was praised widely for his brilliant batting and captaincy. The duo of Shami and Bhuvi were appreciated for their amazing bowling. On the other hand, Dickwella was majorly trolled for his antics on the field.
Here we present to you some of the tweets from Day 5 of the first Test match:
Really good effort from Suranga Lakamal. With helping conditions this guy is as good as any one in world cricket. Very skilful bowler..

The spirit of the Indian bowling in the 26.3 overs in the 4th innings was something which will make everyone feel proud. Bhuvi and Shami were brilliant. All the best for the 2nd Test.

Inspite of rain washing out more than 180 overs, this was Test Match Cricket at it's best. Bhuvi and Shami were simply outstanding. Was a delight to watch an exhibition of top class bowling. #IndvSL

Cricket in 2017, can't find a way to get result in a Test match due to bad light. Poor planning, conditions, scheduling are letting the game down, not any other format.

Man of the match to Sri Lanka's physio who ran in every time he was called upon and every time he wasn't. #IndvSL

Haha Sri Lanka chose to send the fattest and slowest physio to trundle onto the field to waste time. Too good. #indVsl

Sri Lanka is five down and need time-wasting tactics?
Speaks volumes of the lack of self-belief after having just won a series 2-0.#IndvSL #IndvsSL

The light is going. Will look a lot better on TV because the cameras adjust for these things.

Don't know about four day Tests but this match pushes the case for three day Tests rather strongly.#indvsl

I have no problem with them wasting the time. India could easily have given themselves a lot more overs. Themselves to blame.

This is an incredible comeback from India ! They will probably run out of time but they've gained the series momentum & inflicted some scars on SL #INDvSL

I'm liking this Dickwella fellow.
He's intentionally getting on India's nerves.
And causing them to waste their own time.
Quite a wella dick.#INDvSL— Sorabh Pant (@hankypanty) November 20, 2017

Declaration may not lead to win since little time remains, but a few wickets will enable India to garner more brownie points than Lanka
