After a nervy start initially, Bangladesh made a stupendous comeback in the first day’s play of the Chattogram Test against Pakistan. However, the second day completely belonged to the visiting team. Babar Azam and Co. didn’t lose a single wicket and brought the deficit down to 180. The hosts’ bowlers looked completely out of sorts and need to hit their straps on the third day.
Hasan Ali steps up
Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim were outstanding on Day one, but the duo couldn’t carry on with their good work. In the second over of the first session, Hasan Ali trapped Liton plumb in front. Liton added only a solitary run to his overnight score and got out on 114. Debutant Yasir Ali started with a four before an in-dipper from Hasan rattled his woodwork. Mushfiqur also missed out on a century.
The Bogra-born scored 91 before he edged one off Faheem Ashraf. Mehidy Hasan Miraz showed some resistance with the bat as he stayed unbeaten on 38 off 68 with the help of six fours. Hasan Ali went on to pick up a five-wicket haul after he castled Ebadot Hossain. After the colossal stand between Liton and Mushfiqur, the Tigers faltered and were bowled out for 330 in 114.4 overs.
Abid, Shafique make hay
The Pakistan openers, Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique put their heads down and made sure that they kept the Tigers under pressure after Hasan Ali’s fifer. The duo played the entire session and took the visitors to 79 for no loss at Tea. By then, Abid Ali also reached his half-century off 84 balls. Debutant Abdullah Shafique looked determined as well. The pitch didn’t give much assistance to the bowlers.
In the third session, the openers didn’t blaze away, but made sure that Pakistan didn’t lose a single wicket. In the meantime, Abid also notched 1000 runs in Test cricket. Abid was the more attacking of the two openers as he stayed unbeaten on 93 with nine fours and two sixes. Shafique, on the other hand, put his head down to stay not out on 52 with two fours and as many sixes in his knock.
