The second match of the playoffs in the T10 League between Maratha Arabians and Bengal Tigers turned out to be another enthralling one for the audience. In the end, it was the Arabians, who won by seven wickets with five balls to spare. While Bengal has been knocked out of the tournament, Maratha would now be locking horns with Northern Warriors in the Eliminator.
Tigers pile on massive score
The Arabians won the toss and had no hesitation to bowl first. However, the decision backfired as Bengal Tigers racked up 135 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Roel of van der Merwe nipped out Luke Wright in the very first over. Skipper Sam Billings and Sherfane Rutherford flattered to deceive as well and became victim to Rashid Khan and Dwayne Bravo respectively.
At the other end, Sunil Narine blazed away and racked up a quick fire 40 from 18 balls with three boundaries and four sixes. After his dismissal, Mohammad Nabi took charge and he didn’t die wondering in the middle. The all-rounder notched 46 runs off 16 balls with two fours and five sixes. A couple of cameos from Riki Wessels and Mohammad Usman also helped the Tigers’ cause.
Hales goes berserk
Arabians’ run-chase didn’t start on an auspicious note as they lost Hazratullah Zazai and Najibullah Zadran cheaply as Morne Morkel and Kevon Cooper nipped them out respectively. Mujeeb Ur Rahman got the better of wicketkeeper batsman Kamran Akmal for 13 runs. Thereafter, Alex Hales took the bowling to the cleaners and made the contest a one-sided affair.
He was severe in his stroke-play and amassed 87 runs from 32 balls with six fours and eight sixes. It also turned out to be the highest individual score in the T10 League. Apart from Hales, former Windies cricketer Dwayne Bravo also did his bit and scored 27 runs from nine balls. After their triumph against the Tigers, Maratha Arabians would want to do well in today’s third match as well.
