Twitter Reactions: All-round Delhi Capitals dismantle Punjab Kings in one-sided affair
DC took just 10.3 overs to chase down 116.
Now that’s what you call a comprehensive win! Delhi Capitals absolutely dismantled Punjab Kings and recorded a dominating nine-wicket triumph. PBKS never really looked in the hunt as it turned out to be the most one-sided affair in IPL 2022 so far. After bundling Mayank Agarwal’s team for a paltry 115, DC took just 10.3 overs to cross the line and record their third win of the season.
Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. PBKS got off to a flying start with skipper Mayank Agarwal making full use of the field restrictions. However, once Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed in the fourth over, the pendulum of momentum astonishingly swung in Delhi’s favour. The Mohali-based side lost four wickets inside 21 runs and it was one-way traffic afterwards.
Young wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma showcased remarkable resilience and played yet another impressive knock. The dasher scored at a healthy rate amid tough circumstances. However, he was also dismissed after scoring 32 off 23 deliveries. The lower order couldn’t contribute much as PBKS were bundled out for 115. Almost all DC bowlers found themselves among the wickets with Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Lalit Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed scalping two wickets apiece.
Prithvi Shaw, David Warner went bonkers at Brabourne
In reply, DC went all guns blazing with openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner making an absolute mockery of PBKS bowlers. The duo was equally destructive in the powerplay overs and made sure there’s no twist in the tale. In fact, DC collected 81 runs in the powerplay overs, highest for any team this season.
While Shaw fell prey to Rahul Chahar after scoring 41 off 20 balls, Warner brought up his third successive half-century of the season and remained unbeaten till the end. He finished 60 not out while number three batter Sarfaraz Khan scored an unbeaten 12 off 13 deliveries. As a result, DC crossed the line in 10.3 overs, clinching the contest by nine wickets.
