Twitter Reactions: An eight-wicket haul from Roston Chase seals the deal for the Windies
As Windies won by a mammoth 381 runs, the fans were reminded of the vintage team from the '80s.
It was just a matter of time before the Windies team would stamp their authority and register a win in the first Test. The scenario for England to win this Test match always looked improbable. Even though chasing down 628 was never on the cards, the Brits were expected to put up a fight and take the game at least into the fifth day. But, Roston Chase had other plans.
The off-spinner picked up eight wickets in the second innings, registered his best bowling figures and sealed the deal for his team. Thus, the Windies go 1-0 up in the series with two more games to go. After the whitewash they faced in Bangladesh, this victory should be a huge sigh of relief for the team. However, there isn’t any scope of complacency and they’ll still need to be at their best in the remainder of the series as well.
Roston Chase wreaks havoc
The England openers, who negotiated the last 20 overs of play on day-3, survived for about another 9 nine overs on the fourth day. But it was Alzarri Joseph who got the first breakthrough. He dismissed Keaton Jennings for 14 runs (84 balls). Then, Roston Chase dismissed Rory Burns for 84 and Jonny Bairstow soon followed him back to the pavilion. Bairstow was undone by a short ball from Shannon Gabriel. The ball kissed his gloves on the way and was pouched by the keeper.
From here on, it was Roston Chase who picked the rest of the wickets in the England innings. While Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler – all got off to good starts, no one could sustain for a long period of time. Once these three fell, there wasn’t enough gas in the England line-up. Chase finished with figures of 21.4-2-60-8 as the visitors were bowled out for 246.
Twitterati was thrilled watching the Windies team in action. It reminded the fans of the team from the ’80s as the won by a mammoth 381 runs. They were all praise for Roston Chase who was absolutely brilliant on the day.
