It has been an eventful first few days for the Dhaka Platoon, who managed to pull things back wonderfully having lost their opening game. They registered two wins in successive days, which keeps them in the top half of the table and allows them to garner a level of the comfort zone as well.

The Sylhet Thunder won the toss earlier and put the Platoon into bat first. Tamim Iqbal struggled to get going once again and left a lot of the run-scoring onus on the young Anamul Haque. As it turned out, he did have something special up his sleeves and registered a much-needed half-century for the side.

Anamul paced his innings to perfection, finding the right gaps at regular intervals and also knitting the play brilliantly alongside Laurie Evans and Jaker Ali. Courtesy his 42-ball 62, which includes 8 fours and a six, it seemed like the Platoon will post a respectable total despite getting off to a moderate start.

Thisara Perera and Wahab Riaz produced a stellar finish towards the end, spanking four sixes and a boundary between them to help Dhaka register 182 runs in their 20 overs. Sylhet bowlers lost control over the innings towards the end and conceded a good 10-15 runs more than what they should’ve.

Hasan Mahmud stars with the ball for Platoon

Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza is perhaps the perfect person to open the new ball with for a budding talent like Hasan Mahmud. The 20-year-old medium-pacer hit the right areas in the powerplay overs and his brilliance saw to the end of Andre Fletcher very early in the innings.

Mortaza and Wahab Riaz joined the bandwagon soon as Sylhet’s top order collapsed before they could get something respectable in the field-restricted overs. They lost half their side before the 8th over finished and it seemed like the Platoon will sail through comfortably. But Mosaddek Hossain had other ideas and kept fighting a lone battle.

Unfortunately for the 24-year-old, his 44-ball 60 wasn’t good enough as the damage done earlier was way too significant. All they could manage was just 158 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and Platoon prevailed in the game by 24 runs with Hasan Mahmud and Mashrafe Mortaza picking up two wickets each.
