Twitter Reactions: Anil Kumble appointed as coach of the Indian team
Former Indian skipper Anil Kumble was today appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team for a term of one year. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur at the BCCI conclave in Dharamshala announced the decision. Thakur said that they took recommendations from the advisory committee that comprises of the trio- Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman along with former secretary Sanjay Jagdale.
On being asked whether the foreign coaches were considered for the job this time, Thakur said, “It’s not about Indian or foreign coach,”
“It’s about who is the best for Indian cricket. India deserves the best, and I think we have it in Kumble.” The president said.
The CAC had earlier interviewed six among the 21 names suggested to it after short listing the 57 candidates who had initially applied. It was reported that the committee was really impressed with Kumble’s presentation and that is what made him a frontrunner ahead of Ravi Shastri who concluded a term which Thakur called “successful and satisfactory” from BCCI’s point of view.
