The Perth Scorchers emerged victorious against the Hobart Hurricanes in the nervy game of cricket. Scorchers defeated the Hurricanes by 5 wickets to pick up their sixth victory in the seventh edition of the Big Bash League. Big-hitting all-rounder played an attacking inning of 50 runs to guide his team towards the victory by hitting the winning run in the 20th over of the game.

Wade provides a dazzling start

The Scorchers skipper Adam Voges decided to field first after winning the toss and asked the Hurricanes to bat first. The Hurricanes suffered a major blow as their opener Alex Doolan was ruled out of the game due to a concussion, after which wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade was promoted up the order to partner the in-form D’Arcy Short at the top.

Wade played an aggressive cameo of 31 runs in 17 balls to provide his team with a steady start. Hurricanes were reeling at 68-4 inside 10 overs in a troublesome situation and needed a big partnership among the rest of the batters to put up a fighting total on the board.

Bailey and Milenko give a decent finish

After the early wickets, skipper George Bailey stitched a strong partnership of 70 runs along with all-rounder Simon Milenko to take their team towards a decent total of 167 runs. The latter was the star of their innings as he scored 66 runs at a healthy strike rate of almost 180. The Scorchers bowlers Mathew Kelly and Ashton Agar shared two wickets each to reduce the opposition towards a chaseable total.

Turner and Bancroft keep a firm hand on the chase

In the chase, the Scorchers also got dented with some early wickets in the start which halted their progress. But wicket-keeper batsman Cameron Bancroft and all-rounder Ashton Turner held on the innings by notching up their respective half-centuries.

Turner remained unbeaten with an aggressive knock to guide his team towards an incredible 5-wicket victory. The Hurricanes bowlers failed to execute their bowling lengths in the completing stages of the game, which can be termed as a major reason for the defeat.
