Team England had absolutely no answer to the hosts Australia at the bouncy deck of Perth. While the English bowlers largely struggled to get breakthroughs in the crucial fixture, the Australian bowlers wreaked havoc. Pacer Josh Hazlewood proved to be the wrecker-in-chief in the second innings as England crumbled to yet another Ashes defeat this season.
With the humiliating loss, England have ended up conceding the all important Ashes. Australia now have an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the five match series. Well, in all fairness, the excitement of the much hyped series is all gone with the English side proving to be not good enough competitors throughout the course of the series thus far.
They will only have their pride to play for in the remaining two fixtures now. More importantly, they would want to avoid the embarrassment of being whitewashed by the Australian team – a familiar sight they had seen during their previous visit down under in 2013.
Coming to the match, English skipper Joe Root had got it right with his call at the toss. He opted to bat first. The call seemed to be a legit one as as the English team piled up 403 in their first innings riding on centuries from Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow. The pace trio of Mitch Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins accounted for 9 wickets in the innings.
In response, Australia were led firmly by captain Steve Smith’s best score in the format – 239. Mitch Marsh also contributed with his best score of 181 to see the hosts declare their innings at 662/9 in their first innings. In the second innings, England had absolutely no answer to the questions that the Aussie pacers had for them.
Dawid Malan and James Vince did manage to notch up fifties but all of it succumbed to sheer pace of the Australian attack. A five-for for Josh Hazlewood ensured that WACA’s final Ashes Test ended with an Australian win and in some fine dominating fashion!

The history books will forever refer to this as the “Mitch Marsh series”.
That’s why Test cricket is broken. #ashes

It’s interesting with this Perth pitch condition.. did you all know that in the good old days there were no covers and you had to bat on what is given. Bradman reversed the batting order and made 270 because the pitch was wet.

As we all bid a fond farewell to the WACA, Root needs to bid a fond farewell to one of his new ball bowlers! MCG & SCG present him an opportunity to start his young reign as captain again! #Ashes pic.twitter.com/tlDBcYU94Q
