Twitter Reactions: Australia finish the T20I series with a victory
Australia has managed to avoid a whitewash in the T20I series against Sri Lanka. The Lankans managed to pull off victories in the first two matches of the series, rather unexpectedly.
Sent into bat for the third time in the series by Upul Tharanga, the Aussies managed a good start with 79 on the board for the first wicket. Both the openers, Aaron Finch and Michael Klinger managed to score fifties. Ben Dunk and Travis Head played useful hands and didn’t squander the start entirely. Although Aussies looked poised to make 200, they lost too many wickets in the death overs, courtesy some incisive overs from Malinga and Dasun Shanaka. Both the bowlers got two wickets apiece.
The Sri Lankans had a good start and were motoring well until they lost the wicket of captain Tharanga in the fourth over. From there on, they lost wickets at regular intervals and couldn’t quite get the momentum required. Barring Jhye Richardson and an odd over from Moises Henriques, Aussie bowlers were disciplined and were economical.
Zampa and James Faulkner were particularly effective and had returns of 3 for 25 and 3 for 20 respectively. Zampa was particularly impressive with his variations on a pitch that had considerably slowed down following the Women’s match between Australia and New Zealand. He was picked as the Man of the Match and said that”It is always nice to bowl the middle overs and it is very easy when you have a start like that. There are a lot of good

He was picked as the Man of the Match and said that “It is always nice to bowl the middle overs and it is very easy when you have a start like that. There are a lot of good leggies coming through – Swepson and some others in the Big Bash. Sri Lanka has very fearless players, sometimes it can be tough to bowl at them.”

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka was forced to replace Niroshan Dickwella, who was suspended with Dasun Shanaka. Kusal Mendis took over the glovework behind the stumps. Andrew Tye was replaced by Adam Zampa, on his home ground, for the Aussies. This is Australia’s first victory over Sri Lanka at home after six attempts in T20. However, the Lankans win the series 2-1.
