For a change today, Australia were the top team out of the two on Day 2 of the second Test. They managed to get rid of their sub-continent demons, if not for the game at least for the moment. Earlier in the day, Bangladesh resumed their innings from the overnight score of 253/6. Mushfiqur Rahim didn’t manage to stay long as he was bowled by Nathan Lyon.
Soon enough, Nasir Hossain was also dismissed as he fell short of a half century. Mehidy Hasan was run out by David Warner while Lyon put the final nail in the coffin as no.10 batsman Taijul Islam was dismissed caught by Steve Smith. The hosts were all out for 305 runs before lunch.
Lyon ended up with impressive bowling figures of 7/94. Ashton Agar also got a couple of wickets. Not a single Australian pacer accounted for wickets. While Bangladesh after having scored 305 runs might have had an edge, that wasn’t the case.
Australia didn’t begin well as Matt Renshaw was out in the second over. What followed from there on was some stupendous batting by the Australians. David Warner and skipper Steve Smith went on to put up a 93-run partnership for the second wicket.
While Smith got out after scoring a fifty, Warner along with Peter Handscomb combined for an unbeaten 127 runs partnership for the third wicket. Warner was not out on 88 runs, a slow but steady inning by the swashbuckling opener. Handscomb remained unbeaten on 69.
Mustafizur Rahman and Taijul Islam got one wicket each. The Australians were 225/2 at stumps on Day 2 now trailing by just 80 runs and with 8 wickets intact. Finally having control of things in the Test match, it will be interesting to see how far does the Australian team go from here. On the other hand, Bangladesh would be routing for quick wickets tomorrow in the morning session.
Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions during the course of the day:

Aus batting lacks depth of course. Need to bat at least 2 sessions and get lead of 100+ for win possibility. Have to play last on this pitch

Australia's Test No.3 since Ricky Ponting's retirement:

Others – 2699 in 77 inns @ 35.99#BANvAUS— Sampath Bandarupalli (@SampathStats) September 5, 2017
David Warner today went 73 consecutive balls without a boundary, his longest stretch in an inns in Tests. Prev: 64 balls, Cape Town, 2014.

Partnership b/w Warner & Handscomb – 127 runs. Handscomb has scored 69 while Warner 54. When was the last time a batsman outscored Davey?

Who would've thought that stumps day 2 #AUSvBAN the Australian batsman with lowest S/R would be Warner, must be batting very responsibly

Brilliant session for the Aussies. They got through it unscathed. Only 80 runs in the red, still with 8 wickets in hand. #BanVAus

Steve O'Keefe bowled 23 overs without a maiden. That is joint-most, besides GF Lawson, by an Australian since 6-ball overs in 1979. #BanvAus

7 wickets in the first innings of a Test match on a decent pitch. Did even better in B'lore vs India. Super Lyon. #BANvAUS
