In what was a sensational bowling effort by the Australians, the visitors managed to restrict India to 252 runs after sensational fifties from Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. The lower order faltered like a pack of cards following their dismissals.

Earlier in the day, it was skipper Virat Kohli who won the toss as India elected to bat first. While India made no changes in the playing XI from the last game, Australia executed two. James Faulkner made way for Kane Richardson while Ashton Agar replaced Adam Zampa.

India didn’t have a great start as Rohit Sharma was back to the pavilion owing to a soft dismissal. Captain Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane then combined for a splendid 102-run partnership for the second wicket. While Rahane got run out after completing his half century, Kohli continued to bat brilliantly even after scoring his 46th half century.

Manish Pandey again failed to prolong his stay at the crease. Kedhar Jadhav who came in at No.5 looked really good for the time he spent at the crease. He and Kohli combined for a fifty plus partnership before Jadhav was dismissed. Just when Kohli was nearing his 31st ODI hundred, he was bowled by Nathan Coulter-Nile as a result on an inside edge. It was a rare nervous ninety for the skipper.

MS Dhoni who has been in tremendous form of late failed to make a difference as India were reduced to 204/6. At the end, it was the duo of Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar who tried to help India get to a competitive total. However, they failed as Australian bowlers picked wickets at regular intervals. At the end, India were all out for 252 runs on the final ball of the innings.
Coulter-Nile was the pick amongst the Aussie bowlers with three wickets. Kane Richardson also got three wickets which included the crucial wickets of Dhoni and Pandya. Pat Cummins was quite economical as he had bowling figures of 1/34 in his quota of 10 overs. Ashton Agar also managed to get a wicket. At one stage, India looked good enough to cross 300, however, some brilliant bowling by the Aussies and a batting collapse, in the end, meant, India had a decent yet achievable 252 runs on the board.
