In what was the final match of the tour, Australia wrapped up the T20 series in style with a 2-0 whitewash. Though it was heading towards a one-sided game, it turned out to be a thrilling encounter in the end. Earlier in the day, it was Lankan skipper Dinesh Chandimal who win the toss and elected to bat first.
Sri Lanka had Prasanna coming in for Rajitha while Australia had Hastings and Wade replacing Boland and Bailey. Playing his last international game, Tillakaratne Dilshan was back in the hut in the second over. However, Perera and De Silva began on a good note.
Twin strikes from Faulkner triggered a collapse as the batsmen suffered a panic attack. Leaving Dhananjaya De Silva’s 62 (50), no batsmen showed any signs of holding on to the crease. Indeed no one crossed double figures except him and Perera.
The Australian bowlers made a merry of the hosts batting lineup. Sri Lanka could only manage 128/9 in their quota of 20 overs. Faulkner and Zampa, both got three wickets apiece while Hastings got a couple. Starc also got a wicket but was a bit expensive.
Australia were off to another flier with Maxwell taking the bowlers for a toss. Taking Australia to a commanding position, it seemed like they would win this game before 15 overs. However, there was some twist in the tale, as Australia lost wickets in a heap to spin following Maxwell’s dismissal after a scintillating 66 (29).
From 93/0, the visitors were reduced to 120/6. But the target hardly imposed any kind of a serious threat to the Aussies as they went on to win the game by 4 wickets. Glenn Maxwell was declared the man of the match as well as the man of the series.
Twitter has some enthralling reactions to the final game of the SL-Aus series. Maxwell was again lauded for his match-winning knock while Dhananjaya also managed to grab eyeballs of the experts. Australia again got trolled for their approach to spin while SL batsmen were deemed disinterested in today’s game. Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:
So close. What a thriller in the end. Not enough runs but Dilshan nearly pulled off a miracle. Fantastic career ends. He will be missed

Sri Lanka has finally scored 100. As a tribute to Dilshan, their bowlers can now overstep and stop Australian team from scoring 100 #SLvAUS

Seems like the Sri Lankan batsmen don't want to give a nice farewell to Dilshan. #SLvAUS

Wade is so happy in the field. Running in and high-fiving everybody when a wicket falls. It'd be cruel (to everyone) to make him keep again.
