The much awaited historic series began in emphatic fashion as Pakistan went on to win the game by 20 runs. With this win, they lead the series 1-0 with 2 matches to go in the Independence Cup. Earlier in the day, it was captain Faf du Plessis who won the toss as the World XI elected to bowl first. Pakistan handed over debut to all-rounder Fahim Ashraf. Mohammad Amir missed the game as he became a father early today.
The match began with a huge roar from the crowd. Fakhar Zaman hit 2 boundaries before Morne Morkel had him heading back to the pavilion. From there on, Babar Azam put up a spectacular show with the bat. Coming in at No.3, he scored 86 runs from just 52 balls which included 10 boundaries and 2 sixes.
Shoaib Malik played a quickfire inning of 38 (20) while Imad Wasim’s cameo, in the end, meant Pakistan posted a total of 197 runs in their quota of 20 overs. Thisara Perera was really expensive as he went for 51 runs in spite of getting a couple of wickets. Morne Morkel, Ben Cutting and Imran Tahir got a wicket each.
The World XI began strongly before they lost Tamim Iqbal who scored a run a ball 18. Hashim Amla was also dismissed in the same over. The Pakistani bowlers continued to maintain pressure as Tim Paine was also dismissed for a run a ball 25.
Skipper Faf looked good in his innings of 29 (18). While they did keep scoring runs, wickets also kept tumbling from the other end. Darren Sammy played an electrifying inning but it was too late for the World XI as they fell short of the target.
For Pakistan, Sohail Khan bowled impressively with figures of 2/28. Shadab Khan and Rumman Raees also got a couple of wickets each. Imad Wasim went wicketless but was economical while Hasan Ali was expensive. In the end, it was an amazing game of cricket and the crowd got its money worth.
Twitter was all pumped up for the game. There were people lauding the World XI team for having made this possible while others graced this special occasion. Talking about the cricket, Babar Azam was praised for his stupendous knock.

World XI looks competitive enough to keep us interested in the game but seem undercooked enough to ensure home crowd gets to celebrate a win
