Zimbabwe, at one point in time, was down and out in their second T20I against Bangladesh. However, at the Sylhet International Stadium, Sean Williams and Co ran their opponent close courtesy of some gutsy show from their lower order. Nevertheless, in the end, the Tigers managed to weather the storm and won by four runs. Most importantly, they also pocketed the series 2-0.

Tamim goes berserk

Bangladesh started their innings with the run-outs of Liton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto. Das was a tad unlucky as the ball deflected off Carl Mumba’s hands and smashed on to the stumps at the non-striker’s end. But Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim (55) put on 87 for the third wicket to give the innings some momentum. Rahim got his fifty and soon after threw his wicket away to Wesley Madhevere.

But Mahmudullah (41) and Tamim put on 106 to lay the platform for a blistering finish. Tamim was in a different zone and he notched his 10th ODI century off 106 balls. On reaching the milestone, he started throwing the kitchen sink at everything. The southpaw ended with 158 off 136 with 20 fours and three colossal sixes. Mohammad Mithun’s cameo of 32 off 18 propelled the Tigers to 322 in 50 overs.

Zimbabwe fight, but in vain

The run-chase was always going to be a stiff one for the visitors. Shafiul Islam struck first blood, getting rid of opener Regis Chakabva. Then a brilliant backhand flick from Mehidy Hasan Miraz accounted for Brendan Taylor’s wicket. Miraz also trapped Sean Williams in front to pile more agony for Zimbabwe. Tinashe Kamunhukamwe got to his fifty after which Taijul Islam rattled his woodwork.

Sikandar Raza (66) and Madhevere (52) stitched together an 81-run stand and kept the visiting team in contention. But Taijul pinned the latter to send half the Zimbabwean batting back to the hut. Raza tried to take on Mashrafe Mortaza, who got rid of the big fish in the 42nd over.

Donald Tiripano (55*) and Tinotenda Mutombodzi (34) got the target down to 20 off the last over, but couldn’t take their team over the line. Tiripano racked up his fifty off 26 balls with a colossal six off Al-Amin Hossain. In the last ball, he needed to score six, but he could only get a single.
