Zimbabwe lost a couple of crucial wickets at the close of play on the fourth day of their second Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka. But they had the chance of playing the fifth day out and save the match and hence win the series. However, that wasn’t the case as the Tigers won by 218 runs and saved themselves from the embarrassment of a series defeat at home.
Spinners run through the lineup
The visitors started the day with an overnight score of 76 with Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams at the crease. Both seemed to get the measure of the bowling and played out eight overs. Unfortunately, Mustafizur Rahman removed Williams for 13 and broke the stand. Sikandar Raza also perished soon after giving a simple caught and bowled to spinner Taijul Islam.
Nevertheless, Peter Moor and Talor put together a stand of 66 runs from 143 deliveries. Both frustrated Bangladesh in the first innings as well and looked determined to save the day for Zimbabwe. Mehidy Hasan Miraz gave his team a sigh of relief with Moor’s wicket in the 72nd over. Regis Chakabva and succumbed to a horrendous run-out after scoring a couple of runs.
Taylor left stranded
Donald Tiripano became Mehidy’s fourth victim as Liton Das took a sharp catch, standing at short leg. In the meantime, Taylor carried on in his own merry away and didn’t play a stroke out of anger. He staved off the bowlers with expertise and held one end. In the first innings, he scored a masterful century and he replicated his form even in the second innings, scoring a ton.
Eventually, he ended up being not out as he scored 106 runs from 167 deliveries with the help of 10 boundaries. To his dismay, he got no semblance of support from the other end, apart from Moor, who stayed with him in the middle for quite a while. Mehidy brought the curtains down on the match with Kyle Jarvis’ wicket, which also presented the bowler a five-wicket haul.

After a poor show in the first Test, @brianchari92 did not get his down and neither did the selectors lose confidence in him. He kept his head up, backed himself and did well in the 2nd match. Well done Bara! #BANvZIM
