Bangladesh came to India with a lot of hope and very little confidence. First ever Test in India didn’t go as planned for the tigers but they managed to last for all the five days. Bangladesh started the Test by giving away a lot of runs. Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli managed to score at four runs per over on day one. While Bangladesh took only three wickets in the entire day giving away 356 runs with the mighty Virat and a hungry for runs Ajinkya Rahane at the crease.
Day two started equally bad for Mushfiqur Rahim and his boys. Virat and Rahane came out with all guns blazing as the skipper smacked nine boundaries within the first hour of the second day. Ajinkya was not holding back either, he went on to score yet another half-century before falling to Taijul Islam.
Virat went on to score a magnificent double century; his fourth consecutive double ton in as many series’. He scored 204 runs in just 246 balls before he was pinned in front of the wicket by Taijul again. Taijul finished with a three-for to his name.
Saha also scored a century to add to the misery of the tigers as India put on a humongous 687 on the board. Bangladesh’s innings didn’t go as planned. Both their openers were dismissed cheaply. The tigers were reduced to 44 for 2 which soon became 109/4 before Shakib Al Hasan and the Bangladeshi skipper sorted the innings a bit.
They shared a 107-run partnership as Shakib fell for 82 at the hands of Ashwin. Mushfiqur went on to score a fighting century but Bangladesh innings was wrapped up for 388; Mushfiqur Rahim scored 127 off 262 deliveries. They handed India a 299-run head start. Umesh Yadav picked up three wickets while Ashwin and Jadeja managed two each. Ishant and Bhuvaneshwar also got one wicket each.
India batted a bit on day four and scored briskly. They managed to score at a run rate of over five which helped them get to 159 losing four wickets; Pujara top scored with a half-century and India set a target of 459 runs.
Day five was always going to be tough to bat. Bangladesh needed to play out of their skin or a miracle to save this Test match. They toiled very hard but this Indian bowling line-up is as formidable as it looks. Ashwin came up with a telling blow as he picked up an all-important wicket of Tamim Iqbal. Soumya Sarkar and Mominul Haque tried to build a partnership but failed in their attempt and so did Shakib and Mushfiqur. Every batsman got a start but could not capitalize on the same.
Wickets started to tumble and the sun was almost set on Bangladesh before Kamrul Islam Rabbi decided to block his way out. He played 70 deliveries for his three runs and remained not out but his resistance was not enough for them to hold on. Team India won the Test by 208 runs in the end.
Wonderful performance team. Congratulations! Keep it going. #INDvBAN
