Twitter Reactions: Bangladesh in ascendancy despite Moor and Taylor’s brilliance
It will now be interesting to whether Bangladesh enforce the follow-on or not.
At the close of play on the second day, Bangladesh well and truly had the upper hand in the second Test at Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. However, Zimbabwe showed character and made sure that the Tigers don’t run away with the match, albeit Bangladesh are still in a dominant position. Hamilton Masakadza and Co still require 18 more runs to avoid the follow-on.
Moor and Taylor script comeback
After the captain perished cheaply, Brian Chari and night-watchman Donald Tiripano commenced proceedings on the day. The latter was determined not to throw his wicket away but was eventually nipped out by left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. Chari notched a half-century after which Mehidy Hasan Miraz accounted for his dismissal. Sean Williams perished cheaply.
Taijul got his fourth wicket in the form of Sikandar Raza, who couldn’t open his account in 12 deliveries. Thereafter, Brendan Taylor and Peter Moor injected momentum into the innings with a stand of 139 runs from 223 balls. The former went on to rack up his fifth Test ton while Moor, unfortunately, succumbed to an in-dipper from Ariful Haque. The batter scored 83 runs.
Zimbabwe unable to save the follow-on
After Taylor and Moor went back to the hut, wickets fell in quick succession and Zimbabwe were bundled out for 304 runs from 105.3 overs. Mehidy Hasan dismissed Brandon Mavuta and the dismissal was also helped by a sharp reflex-catch by Ariful Haque, standing at first slip. Regis Chakabva was the last wicket to fall and he was nipped out by the left-armer Taijul.
In the meantime, Taijul again came to the party and picked up a five-wicket haul. He was clearly Bangladesh’s most dependable bowler having bowled more than 40 overs. Fast bowler Tendai Chatara didn’t bat for the reason that he was ruled out of the series. It will now be interesting to whether Bangladesh enforce the follow-on or not on the fourth day’s morning.
