Twitter Reactions: Bangladesh make Sylhet debut memorable with series victory
This time around, Shai Hope's valiant efforts went in vain.
After their victory in the opening match, Bangladesh succumbed to Shai Hope’s brilliance in the second match in Dhaka. However, they made a stupendous comeback and won the deciding match against Windies in Sylhet by eight wickets. Last month, the Tigers lost the maiden Test, hosted by the venue, against Zimbabwe. Nevertheless, they didn’t let that happen in the 50-overs format.
Windies’ only ‘Hope’
The Tigers won the toss and had no hesitation to field first and it worked for them as they restricted the Caribbean team for 198/9 in 50 overs. Hope, yet another time, played a lone hand and eventually remained not out on 108 runs from 131 balls with 10 boundaries. The right-hander showed no signs of nervousness and accomplished his century with a six over long-off, smashing Shakib Al Hasan.
After Hope, Marlon Samuels’ 19 runs was the second-highest individual score for the Windies. Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up four prized wickets, which include the important scalp of Shimron Hetmyer for a six-ball duck. Shakib and skipper Mashrafe Mortaza churned out a couple of wickets with Mohammad Saifuddin, who replaced Rubel Hossain, nipped out the experienced Samuels.
All too easy for the Tigers
Rovman Powell and Co needed early wickets in order to stay in contention for a triumph. They introduced off-break bowler Roston Chase in the second over, but the Tigers didn’t fall for the trap. Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das blended caution with aggression and cobbled a stand of 45 runs in 10 overs. Keemo Paul accounted for Liton’s wicket in the 11th over to separate the ominous-looking duo.
Thereafter, Tamim and Soumya Sarkar put their heads down to milk the Windies bowlers with ease. The former scored back-to-back fifties to mark his international return after the wrist injury. The Chittagong-born batsman stayed not out on 81 from 104 balls with seven boundaries. Sarkar took on the bowling, amassed 80 runs with five fours and as many sixes to take the Tigers to glory.
