At the close of the second day’s play of the second Test at Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, the Windies found themselves in a precarious position. Bangladesh well and truly had the upper hand. As many as 15 wickets went down on the third day as Bangladesh won by an innings and 184 runs and won the series 2-0. It also turned out to be their biggest Test win in their history.
Wickets tumble like nine pins
Shimron Hetmyer and Shane Dowrich commenced proceedings with the score at 75/5, but the remaining five wickets fell for 36 runs. Hetmyer succumbed to a caught and bowled off Mehidy Hasan for 39 runs. In his very next over, he nipped out Devendra Bishoo to pick his fifth wicket. Kemar Roach was the next to perish. Dowrich, after scoring 37, became the tweaker’s seventh wicket.
Shakib Al Hasan accounted for the wicket of number 11 Sherman Lewis and shot the Caribbean team out for 111 runs in 36.4 overs. Moreover, the Tigers amassed a lead of 397 runs. Previously, they didn’t make a team follow-on, but this time around, Windies were put in to bat and Bangladesh continued to maintain their dominance over a hapless bunch of the visitors’ players.
Mehidy steps up again
The Windies got off to a horrendous start even in the second innings. Both openers- skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell- was dismissed by Shakib and Mehidy respectively inside the first four overs. Taijul Islam also joined the party and picked up his first wicket in the form of Sunil Ambris. The left-arm spinner accounted for Roston Chase’s wicket as well in the 13th over.
Thereafter, Shimron Hetmyer fought a lone battle and scored 93 runs from 92 balls with one boundary and nine sixes. The Guayana-born batsman looked at sheer ease and eventually fell prey to Mehidy. The likes of Roach and Lewis tried to put some resistance, but the task was way too humungous for them to achieve. In the meantime, Mehidy finished with 12 wickets in the match.

Wonderful victory for Bangladesh, their first innings victory in test cricket. West Indies is in a sorry state, Zimbabwe were far more competetive against Bangladesh in same conditions just a month ago #BanvWI

Nt even a single pacer in the playing XI this time and a big win on the 3rd day. Calling such pitch a typical subcontinent dustbowl would be a major understatement. #BANvWI

Bangladesh won by an innings and 184 runs!! It's really mind-boggling how far we have come! We used to lose like this regularly before! #BanvWi

Looks like Shimron hetmyer is eager to earn a million dollar IPL contract and create havoc with bids at the IPL auction. 8 sixes in a test innings with no fours. Thats crazy. Brute power and attacking mindset is the only game that hetmyer plays. #BANvWI #SPNSports #cricbuzz @ICC

Fantastic performance from @BCBtigers! Whitewashing West Indies is not an easy feat by any mean. Nayeem, Miraz & Taijul were terrific. Shakib led the team really well. And not to forget those two tons from Riyad and Mominul! #BANvWI

Bangladesh spinners have taken all 40 Windies wickets available – first time all 40 wkts in a two-Test series taken by a team's spinners.
Previous most was 38 by Ban against Eng in 2016.#BANvWI— Deepu Narayanan (@deeputalks) December 2, 2018
Good that Bangladesh won but this same team will be bashed in foreign soil. No pacer in the team. This way they can never do well outside Asia. BCB should make a pacer friendly pitch in all format considering the next World Cup will be in England & Wales. #BANvWI
