In a thrilling encounter between the two Asian countries, Bangladesh managed to hold their nerves and emerge victorious by just 7 runs. Earlier in the day, Mortaza won the toss as the hosts elected to bat first.
While Sarkar got out in the very first over of the match, Tamim Iqbal composed a gritty knock of 80 runs falling short of a century. Later, Mahmadullah with a scintillating half century along with Shakib 48(40) took Bangladesh past 200.
However, the hosts lost wickets in a heap as Afghan bowlers maintained their grip at the death. From 203/3, Bangladesh went on to get all out on 265 off the last ball.
While Zadran was a touch expensive, he was the pick of the bowlers with 6 wickets. Rashid and Nabi got a couple of wickets each as Naveen and Ashraf also found themselves among the wickets.
On the other hand, Afghanistan lost two wickets quickly after a quick start. From there on, Rahmat and Hashmatullah compiled a 144 runs partnership for the third wicket. Hashmatullah scored a scintillating 72 while Rahmat batted his way to a 71 run knock before getting out to Shakib.
However, once they got out Afghanistan were in a spot of bother. Nabi tried to inspire some confidence but he too got out trying to go for the big ones. The Afghan batsmen lost wickets at the crucial stages while the Bangladesh bowlers bowled well at the death to snatch a victory by just 7 runs.
Taskin Ahmed who was taken for the cleaners in the beginning came back to take four wickets in the end. Mortaza and Shakib also got a couple of wickets. Shakib also went on to win the match for a superb all round performance.
Twitter had respect and admired the fight from Afghanistan. On the other hand, there was absolute criticism about their finishing skills. The visitors would be looking to take the flaws out of today’s game and come back stronger.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:

I have always believed that Afghanistan will have a Pakistan type future in cricket – great bowling, self-made batting & funny fielding.

Don't think Nabi will go after Shakib. Doesn't need to. Can attack others.
