The Barbados Royals outsmarted the Guyana Amazon Warriors in every department of the game and hammered their opponents by 45 runs in the 20th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Batting first, the Barbados side posted a massive total of 185/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
And, it was a collective batting effort that propelled the Royals to a massive total. The opening duo of Kyle Mayers and Johnson Charles added 42 runs in just 4 overs, after which the likes of Glenn Phillips and Jason Holder plundered the Guyana bowlers to all parts of the ground.
While Philips scored 44 at a strike rate in excess of 140, Holder scored a murderous 7-ball 22. Romario Shepherd was the pick of the bowlers for the Guyana Amazon Warriors. In the 4 overs that he bowled, Shepherd scalped 3 wickets and gave away 31 runs.
Odean Smith fights a lone battle in vain for Guyana Amazon Warriors
In reply, the Guyana Amazon Warriors were not up to the task and were reduced to 31/3 inside 5 overs. Veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez was looking good for the Guyana side, but just when it seemed as if the right-hander would kick on and get a big score, he perished for a 25-ball 30.
Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, and Odean Smith was the only batsman who took the fight to the Barbados Royals’ bowlers. He scored a 29-ball 43, and his innings was embellished with 2 fours and 4 sixes. But, he did not receive support from his teammates, and the Guyana side was bowled out for 140.
Nyeem Young was the standout performer for the Barbados outfit with the ball in hand. The 20-year-old bowler prized out 3 batsmen in the 3.2 overs that he bowled, and also gave away 24 runs. The Guyana Amazon Warriors are now placed at the 4th place in the points table with 3 victories in 7 matches, while the Barbados Royals are occupying the last place, having posted 2 wins in 7 matches.
