Another thrilling encounter was witnessed in this edition of the PSL when the Islamabad United played the Quetta Gladiators. It was a high-scoring fixture which had a lot of twists and turns. However, in the end, it was the Gladiators who managed to hold onto their nerve in the crunch moments. Jason Roy was good with the bat at the top of the order. But it was Ben Cutting who made the main difference between both the sides and sealed the game with consecutive sixes in the final over.

Even though they lost three wickets in the powerplay, Islamabad United got off to a flyer in the powerplay. The likes of Colin Munro and Shadab Khan scored at strike rates over 150 after they were asked to bat first. While the former mustered 31 from 20, the latter got to 39 in 25 balls. Even though these two couldn’t carry on for a bit longer, Colin Ingram ensured that he did.

He remained unbeaten on 63 off only 40 balls as his team got to 187/7. Naseem Shah was the pick of the bowlers. In such a high-scoring inning, he only gave away 23 runs in his four and picked up two wickets.

In the chase, Quetta Gladiators lost Shane Watson, Ahmed Shehzad and Azam Khan for low scores. Yet, the effect of these wickets was nullified by Jason Roy’s knock. He scored 50 from 38 deliveries and built up a good partnership with skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed who scored 33 from 20 balls. Yet, things got quite intense towards the end with the required run rate touching nearly 12 at times.

That was when Ben Cutting arrived and took the game away from the opposition. He started slow and hit his first six in the 17th over. Then, in the 18th over, he milked 17 runs off the bowling of Faheem Ashraf. However, the United bounced back in the 19th when Rumman Raees conceded just 5 runs despite bowling a no-ball.

11 runs were required in the last over and just 2 runs were scored in the first two balls. But Ben Cutting smashed the third and fourth ball for sixes, thus completing the chase.
