Northern Warriors played brilliantly in the qualifying stage of the T10 League and won five of their six matches. However, they couldn’t carry on with their rich vein of form and lost against Pakhtoons by 13 runs. However, they would be getting another chance in the day’s third match- The Eliminator. In the meantime, Shahid Afridi’s team made their way to the final on December 02.

Afridi dominates with the bat

The Warriors won the toss and elected to bowl first. Andre Fletcher and Cameron Delport opened, but both couldn’t make much impact with the bat in hand. While Hardus Viljoen got rid of Fletcher for 14 at a run-a-ball, Windies all-round cricketer Andre Russell accounted for Delport’s prized wicket. Colin Ingram also perished after promising with a couple of boundaries from four balls.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Shafiqullah Shafiq made 22 runs from 10 balls with three fours and a six to inject momentum into the innings. Englishman Ravi Bopara got rid of the batsman from Afghanistan. Thereafter, skipper Afridi came into his own with a knock of 59 from 17 balls, laced with three fours and seven sixes. The onslaught helped Pakhtoons score 133 runs in their 10 runs.

Powell’s knock goes in vain

The run-chase didn’t start on an auspicious note as Pakistani speedster Mohammad Irfan nipped out Nicholas Pooran for five runs. To the Warriors’ agony, Russell succumbed to a horrendous run-out courtesy of a direct hit from Sohail Khan. However, Windies duo of Lendl Simmons and Rovman Powell resurrected the innings and put on 67 runs for the third wicket in 34 balls.

Irfan got his second wicket in the form of Simmons. Nevertheless, Powell carried on in his own merry way and scored 80 runs from 35 balls with four boundaries and as many as nine sixes. Unfortunately, his knock couldn’t get the Warriors over the line. Left-arm spinner Sharafuddin Ashraf was entrusted to defend 24 runs in the final over and he did so with sheer expertise.
