Adelaide Strikers registered their maiden win in the BBL by defeating Sydney Sixers by 48 runs in Adelaide. After a mediocre show in the batting department for the 3rd time in a row, Strikers’ bowlers turned the match on its head picking wickets at regular intervals and eventually helped their side to a comprehensive 48 runs win.

Sydney Sixers’ captain Moises Henriques won the toss and asked the hosts to bat. Openers Brad Hodge and Jake Weatherald began briskly and shared a 37 runs partnership for the opening wicket in 4.2 overs before Weatherald was dismissed by Ben Dwarshuis with a beautifully disguised slower delivery. Ben Dunk and Hodge played well for their 2nd wicket partnership but with the fall of Dunk’s wicket, the hosts started losing wickets at regular intervals. From 91/1 in 9 overs, they slipped to 141/7 in the 19th over and could only manage 152 in their allotted 20 overs. Considering their brisk start, they would have been utterly disappointed with their batting display during the backend of the innings.

Chasing a modest 153 to win in 20 overs openers Jason Roy and Daniel Hughes began in a positive fashion and raced off to 34 in the first 4 overs. But Jason Roy’s wicket triggered a dramatic collapse and from 34/0 they slipped to 46/5 in the 9th over. There was no way back for the visitors after losing the top orders batsmen cheaply and despite a valiant effort by Sam Billings lower down the order couldn’t prevent the Sixers to lose the match by a comprehensive margin of 48 runs.

While Billings was the top scorer for the Sixers with his 30 balls 40, an innings constructed with a couple of fours and sixes, Billy Stanlake was the standout performer as far as the Adelaide Strikers were concerned as he finished with impressive figures of 3/17 in 3.2 overs.

Twitteratti was pretty active throughout the game and there were certain tweets which described the proceedings in the best possible way. Here are some of the best tweets from the match
