Twitter Reactions: Brad Hodge, Alex Ross lifts Adelaide Striker to stunning win
The former Victorian and Stars mainstay remained undefeated on 56 from 41 balls as Adelaide set the visitors 188 to win. Ross, with 65 of 31, officially came of age across all forms in a record, 115-run fifth-wicket stand.
Unbeaten pair John Hastings (15) and James Faulkner needed 35 off the last over with the Strikers winning by 19 runs. The Stars’ 188-run target was achievable with one of the most powerful batting line-ups assembled in BBL history that included Luke Wright, Marcus Stoinis, Kevin Pietersen, Glenn Maxwell and David Hussey.
However leg-spinner Rashid (2-27) put the brakes on the visitors with premium support from Kane Richardson (3-22) and Ben Laughlin (2/38).
Adelaide had stumbled, offering three chances in the opening nine balls. Ludeman missed a stumping from Wright off Jon Holland (0-36) and then two more hot chances from the Englishman off frustrated Richardson. Craig Simmons grassed a sitter off Richardson from Stoinis at first slip.
Stoinis and Wright capitalised on their reprieves taking 53 from the first six overs.
Stunned Strikers coach Jason Gillespie summed up best, saying: “I am speechless, the umpires have made their decision so I will have to go with it.”
Hodge and Ross put on 50 in 35 balls and accelerated to 115 in 54 with an exceptional brand of clean hitting cool decision making despite the extreme conditions braved by 26,000 fans.
