The Chris Gayle led St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots locked horns with Dwayne Bravo’s Trinbago Knight Riders in the 22nd match of the Carribean Premier League (CPL). Though it turned out to be a rain depleted one, the match was the best of the tournament as far as the entertainment level is concerned. However, the Shah Rukh Khan owned Trinbago Knight Riders picked up the victory in the match with an incredible display of carnage.
Coming on to bat first, the St.Kitts side saw skipper Chris Gayle lead by example. The ‘Universe Boss’ was back to his lethal best as he stormed his way to 93 runs from 47 balls. He missed yet another T20 century by just 7 runs but his rampant knock consisted of 8 towering maximums and 5 boundaries. His opening partner Evin Lewis was in a league of his own too. The batsman slammed 4 sixes and 3 boundaries to score a 14-ball 39. The Patriots finished their inning at 162/3 in their 13 overs.
Trinbago Knight Riders matched their opponents toe to toe. Kiwi legend Brendon McCullum and Darren Bravo of the Caribbean took power hitting to another level altogether as the team scored 88 runs in less than 5 and a half overs. The rain gods spoiled the party as the match had to be stopped there but the crowd had already witnessed much more than what they expected.
McCullum remained not out at 40 from a mere 14 deliveries as he blasted 3 sixes and 5 fours in his inning. However, Darren Bravo went berserk with the bat on the other side as he decided to deal in sixes. The batsman hit 6 sixes in the 10 deliveries he faced as remained unbeaten at 38.
Bravo’s inning did not feature a single boundary but it ensured a gigantic win for the Knight Riders which saw Chris Gayle’s massive effort go in vain.
Here is how the Twitterati reacted to the intense gunfire at the Warner Park:
What a massive win for @TKRiders. Given the difficult task of requiring 52 off 17 balls, enter Darren Bravo hit 38(10) ?? Take a bow ??@CPL
